Seriously.
Perhaps in over my head, but I am so excited. I applied for this contest on a whim back in the spring with a little idea that I had dreamed up. As I landed at Chicago’s O’Hare airport at 1am after my weeklong trip to Panama on June 12th, there was a voice mail saying I was one of three finalists. I think I stood up in my seat just as the pilot was saying, “Please remain seated with your seatbelt fastened.”
I couldn’t help it.
…So exciting and nerve wrecking all at the same time!
The biggest news?
I had to be ready for a tv performance a week and a half later. So, I scrambled to whip up batches of my Skinny Dinner Starter (like a madwoman). I hunted down the incredibly talented Courtney Kirkland to design some labels for me. I took a deep breath (okay, more like five million) and I headed to the TMJ4 studios for my 1 minute and fifteen seconds of fame. Here it goes.
I will serve these Italian Paninis to the judges!
I realize I was a bit over eager and over zealous. I smiled too much for sure. But, I still think my idea is really good amazing. In fact, I have been a little slow on my recipes for Skinny Mommy as I have been working on a ton of recipes using the Skinny Dinner Starter. Wow! It works like a charm and has made dinner planning way easier. My family hasn’t even noticed we have been eating it so often because the recipes are all so different. I haven’t tired of it yet. I am not kidding.
…and these Italian Shrimp
I will have a little “cookbook” of the recipes done soon, but for now I just wanted to share with you all this exciting news.
So (please!) cross your fingers for me on July 24th at 2pm when I arrive at the official Hottest Kitchen Entrepenuer Challenge to serve my Skinny Dinner Starter to a panel of 6 judges and 50 guests.
If I could serve them another thing…this would be it!
I certainly hope I win.

Congratulations, Bree! I just saw you on Real Milwaukee and you are super fabulous! I’ve been exploring your website and can’t wait to try your food. I’m a mom of three daughters in their 20′s who still makes healthy meals for them, including lunches to go to work (and sometimes dinners) for two with their own families who no longer live at home. Your idea for quick and healthy meals is just what young families need in today’s world. My youngest daughter (who does live at home) and I have been playing around with healthy white sauce recipes and you could do the same thing with that for a starter (chicken casseroles, alfredo pizza, shrimp something or another….). I hope that you also come up with some more good ideas for quinoa. We love it with vegetables sauteed in garlic and olive oil and substitute it for brown rice in recipes.
My wish for you is that you come up with lots more affordable healthy products and get them to the general public and into public schools for kids to enjoy. I hope that you do such great things that Michelle Obama and Jaime Oliver get involved to help you get Miwaukee area families healthier. In the meantime, if you need a volunteer to help you get started, please let me know.
